What’s with Amazon Alexa and Hindi?
Amazon assistant – Alexa in India is still able to talk only in English. But with the help of Indian users, this should change as soon. Users will have be able to chat with in Hindi, and at the same time, they will teach Alexa how to talk Hindi.
Amazon India on August 14 launched a new ability for Alexa in India. The new skill is called Cleo and is aimed to assist the AI agent in learning Hindi and other local languages. This also includes Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu and Gujarati among other Indian languages.
The ability will help the company improve Alexa’s speech recognition and ability to present Hindu language on its assistance.
Alexa still hasn’t fully embraced local vernacular languages, but with Cleo, this might also happen soon. For now, it can understand phrases in local languages and does a reasonably good job at understanding the Indian accent.
